A classical Dutch development plan is to mobilize the kingside first (…f5, …Nf6, …e6, …Be7, …O-O), then expand into the center (…d6, …Qe8, …Bd8, …e5), after which the queenside pieces can join. Black almost always uses e4 as a support point for the knights, and sometimes the bishop cooperates from b7.
