After 3 games, the world championship battle was locked at 1.5-1.5. Anand had silenced anyone who thought that his morale was shattered by the crushing loss in game 1 by winning game 2.

In game 4, Anand completed his comeback from the game 1 loss by using a tactical attack to beat his rival down. The 'Tiger from Madras' now led the match 2.5-1.5
