Fighting the Petrov Defense

| 12

Hi chess world, today I'll be talking of the Petrov Defense (or Petroff's Defense, or Russian Defense, or Russian Game (this opening has too many names!!!)).

History and Main Ideas:

The Petrov Defense was popularised in the 19th century by GM Petrov, an ancient World Champion. It has the reputation of being quite dull, but a few lines of this opening are quite sharp. The Idea is to counter attack the e4 pawn after 1. e4  e5  2. Nf3.

Without further ado, let me show you this opening:

As I said earlier, I am now going to show you what happens after 3... Nc6. What I'm about to show you is a trap in which I fell and how to avoid it:

With what I just gave you, you should be able to play fight against the Petrov defense, but if you want to add this opening to your repertoire as black, what I gave you isn't enough at all. Maybe one day, I'll try and go deeper into it...

I really hope you enjoyed this blog, if you did, please leave a nice comment below and consider following me (I accept all friend requests).

If ever you didn't like it, could you please leave a comment to tell me what to improve?

Anyways  thanks a lot for your time!
