Common Situations for TD Involvement

Common Situations for TD Involvement

Jun 16, 2014, 12:01 PM 0

I'm often asked as a TD what the most common situations for my invlovement are at my club and so I've listed them below. Most situations that arise are handled by the players themselves (a good thing), and Rule 14H - a draw claim due to insufficient losing chances - is rare due to the popularity of digital clocks with time delay (another good thing).  As an interesting side note, some clubs have banned analog clocks.  I'm a digital clock advocate, but I'm not prepared to go that far at my club quite yet.  Anyway, here's the list, in order of frequency, of my TD invlovement:

  • Defective or Improperly Set Clocks - in 1st place BY FAR....
  • Illegal Moves
  • Draw claim due to threefold repetition
  • Non-scorekeeping (scorekeeping is required unless EITHER player has less than 5 minutes remaining)
  • Annoying or distracting behavior, including repeated draw offers
