Round 4 was a heartbreaker. Here was a golden opportunity to take down a 1900s player and increase my rating, and I played it beautifully (the computer agreed with many of my moves). The problem was -- as is often the case -- time pressure. With precious little time left on the clock, I was forced to play fast and put myself in danger, which made me lose even though I was within two moves of checkmating him (my notes for the game accidentally state one move). I stared at the ceiling for a while and prepared myself for the imminent Round 5, where the chess gods smiled on me and gave me the fastest tournament win of my life.
