Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year -- visiting family, consuming excess amounts of food and drink, reflecting on the year gone by and what the next year might bring, and witnessing miracles.
I had a chess miracle today when playing black against Shredder at a fairly high level. As an aficionado of offbeat openings, I sometimes dabble in the Budapest Defense/Gambit, but rarely do I see it work against an opponent as strong as this. But work it did, even though I blundered an exchange during the endgame.
If there's a lesson here, it's never to give up even when you falter. Keep fighting, and keep believing.
