Tournament Report: MVP Chess K-12 Quads | February 2026 | Alexandria, VA, USA
On February 15, 2026, the MVP Chess K-12 Quads brought together 28 players from Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The event used a three round G/25 d5 quad format and included a small Swiss section to support a wide range of US Chess ratings and first-time competitors. The tournament atmosphere was focused and friendly and students showed good sportsmanship throughout the day.

New Players and New Ratings
Four players competed in their first US Chess rated tournament. For many of them this was their first time using clocks and competing under official rules. We are always glad to see new players enter the rated chess community and this group handled their first event well.

Girls in Chess
Increasing girls' participation is a major focus for us and we are proud to see this number continue to grow. The top girl's performance came from Lamisa Y. (VA) who competed in Quad 4 and is one of our featured players in this month's YouTube game analysis. Check it out!
Huge Rating Gains
Three players earned large rating increases from their results. Rating gains like these come from hard work and dedication, and these players are on a strong path forward.

Each section winner received a trophy. All other players received medals. Every student left with a prize to recognize their effort and participation.
