How to lose to a six year old in 9 moves.
I am 43 years old, and I was in my very first serious over-the-board chess tournament last weekend. (Last summer, I was in my first club tournament and earned a provisinal rating of about 1100USCF). I played chess in high school but I never had a coach and frankly I now realize we had no idea what we were doing. Over the last 1-2 years of study and play, I've gotten much better, and I've enjoyed coaching my kids at their school.
In the U1250 section, I did OK, winning 4 out of 5 rounds in the 54th Baltimore Open. My only loss was to an impressive six-year-old girl, Rachael Li. I was completely terrified, and played perhaps the worst game I could have played against her. That said, I wish to take nothing away from Rachael Li -- she demonstrated impressive attacking ability while I cowered in a corner. Here is the game:
