Dutch Championships R3 & R4
Round Three ended as such:
Loek Van Wely 1/2-1/2 Anish Giri
Benjamin Bok 1/2-1/2 Robin Van Kampen
Roeland Pruijssers 1-0 Sergei Tiviakov
Sipke Ernst 1-0 Erwin L'Ami
The results of Round Four turned out as such:
Robin Van Kampen 1/2-1/2 Sipke Ernst
Sergei Tiviakov 1/2-1/2 Erwin L'Ami
Anish Giri 1-0 Benjamin Bok
Roeland Pruijssers 0-1 Loek Van Wely
The results of these two rounds, which ended with Giri and Van Wely in the lead, each with 3/4, clearly illustrate the validity of the "the day matters" chess theory: one can do badly one day and do uncharacteristically well the next (or vice versa), not necessarily because of "coincidence" or "luck".
Shall we see?
