Thematic Tournament & Training Update
One more game to go this round. I am 9-0. My last game is fairly even right now. I had planned on playing the Arkangelsk variation, but messed up the move order (Nf6 needs to be played before b5!). The resulting position was tricky for a bit but I was able to trade off the light square bishop for a knight and it became even. My plan after that wasn't a good one, and the game is still pretty even.
The game I just finished was even until tonight. Then some tactics put it away quickly.
I got in my usual diet of tactics problems the past few days. Work has been hectic so my training hasn't been as intense as I would like.
I did spend some time working through more of Silman's Amateur's Mind and played through some more games in Nunn's Understanding Chess Move by Move. I have moved from the section on attacks to defence in that book. I am still reading about Bishops and Knights in the Silman book.
The other thing I did was play a couple of basic K+P endgame positions against the computer. As part of my endgame training I plan to go through the positions in Hall's Endgame Challenge and play them against Fritz or Rybka to test my understanding of what I am learning from Silman's Complete Endgame Course, and my other endgame training.
