When Computer Evaluations Are Off...

May 8, 2009, 12:25 PM 0

I had Fritz analyze the following position, and it considers white only modestly better (+/=). My human evaluation tells me that white is simply winning because of black's bad bishops and difficulty moving between the kingside and queenside. I would guess that a GM would win this without great difficulty against the strongest computer programs. What do you think? Is Fritz wrong? [Analysis of this game to be posted later.] For a famous example of a computer unable to play a closed position see Kasparov-X3D Fritz game that follows.
