My first tournament, Round 2: Winning a won position

In my last post I've skipped Round 2 and went straight to Round 3, mostly because I wasn't sure of what to make of this game. I believe I played pretty bad: I didn't bother to calculate and was lacking of the necessary concentration.

My opponent had an advantage for quite some time but was having a hard time materializing it. I successfully deflected his attacks and after time went down to a few minutes for each player, my opponent started making mistakes due to time pressure. So I managed to find a small window and execute an attack.

The game reminded me of the following quote:

  • “Give me a difficult positional game, I will play it. But totally won positions, I cannot stand them.” – Hein Donner
