A great weekend of chess for the kids.

Northampton Junior Chess Club took 20 kids over two days (15 per day with some substitutes) to the Junior 4NCL event held at the Barcelo Hotel just outside Hinckley.

The full results can be found under the news section here: http://www.northamptonjuniorchessclub.org.uk/

Our "A" team was unforutnately hampered by having to default a board in each game since we were missing our usual board 2 player. I am sure this would have made a bit of a difference to the A sides' results but this is a marathon, not a spring and Harry Bowman will be back for the next two weekends so hopefully our position in division 2 will improve.

In division 3, the girls did brilliantly - winning the best girls team (out of two teams) but also surpassing the B team in terms of team results. Our girls team finished 2nd overall and B team finished joint 3rd. Our C team finished 5th (directly below the B team) and so overall this was a very creditable performance and demonstrates the strength in depth to our "middle order".

Hopefully our A team players will learn from this and of course we now have another two months to work with all of the kids to get improved results in January.

Well done to the kids, parents and of course to Ian Marsh for arranging everything.

If you are local to Northampton and know any kids who are interested in developing their chess (or are a volunteer) then please get in touch with NJCC or contact me via this website as we are always looking for new members and helpers. All helpers have to undergo an enhanced CRB check and plenty of our existing helpers are parents of our junior players.

So, well done again to everyone. It's back to "normaility" for me this week - a match tomorrow and Wednesday so the usual reports will be put up onto the blog - stay tuned!
