In chess there are two different types of pins. One is the absolute pin. One is the relative pin. Absolute pins are when a piece is pinned to its king and can't move without exposing its king to a check from an opposing piece on the same line or diagonal. It is a powerful weapon since the piece is now immobolized and you can pile up on it adding more attackers and maybe eventually winning it. Here is an example:
