Horatio Caro (1862-1920) (pronounced KAH-ro) was born in Newcastle, England . He later moved to Berlin, Germany. He was the editor of the German chess magazine Bruederschaft. In 1886 he published analysis of the Caro-Kann (1.e4 c6) that he had analyzed with Marcus Kann (1820-1886). He lost matches to Simon Winawer and Jacques Mieses, drew two matches with Curt von Bardeleben, and defeated M. Lewitt.
