Edmondson, Edmund

Ed Edmondson (1920-1982) was a former President (1963-1966) and Executive Director (1966-1977) of the U.S. Chess Federation.  In 1969, he arranged the merger of Chess Life and Chess Review magazines to form Chess Life & Review.  He suffered a heart attack while playing chess on the beach at Waikiki. The Edmondson trophy goes to the winner of the National Open.  He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel, serving as an aircraft navigator on tanker and bombers for 20 years.
