Leopold Hoffer (1842-1913) was a Hungarian-born English chess journalist. He founded (along with Zukertort) and edited the Chess Monthly from September 1879 to 1896. He wrote for the Standard and the Westminster Gazette. In 1882, he took over Steinitz’s chess column in The Field when Steinitz moved to America. In 1895, he was the founder and honorary secretary of the British Chess Association.
