Karjakin, Sergey

Sergey Karjaki is a Ukrainian Grandmaster, born in simferopol, Ukraine on January 12, 1990,later moved to russia.   On August 20, 2002, at the age of 12 years and 7 months, he was the youngest grandmaster in history.  He was the world champion under 12.  In 2002 he served as one of Ruslan Ponomariov’s seconds during his world championship match with Ivanchuk.At age fourteen he defeated at the time world champion Vladimir Kramnik in a blitz game.  His name is pronounced car-yack-kin.  In 2005, he won the Geller Memorial in Odessa. In February 2009 he won the A group of the Corus chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee (category XIX) with a score of 8/13.Later he also won the ACP World Rapid Cup which was conducted from 27 May to 29 May 2010.  He is one of the leading russian players now and  His current and peak Elo rating is 2776, ranked #5 in the world.
