Marco, Georg

Georg Marco (1863-1923) was a Romanian-born Austrian of Grandmaster strength.  He was a very large and powerful man (he weighed over 300 pounds).  He was referred to as the “strongest” chess player in the world because of his physical strength.  He was primarily known as a chess analyst for Wiener Schachzeitung (Vienna Chess News) in Vienna from 1898 to 1916.  He began as a medical student but gave it up for chess.  He was secretary of the Viennese Chess Association.
