There used to be something called the "Soviet School" of chess but which has now been fairly well absorbed by the world's players due to the migration of Russian (East Bloc) Grandmasters to western countries.
Suffice to say that calculation and dynamics - initiative- were paramount along with exacting endgame technique in order to dominate the world rankings for decades.
It takes years of practice and dedication to become a good chess player. But, like learning a language, it is something that pretty much anyone can aspire to.
Take heart when you blunder: Even top players at the height of their powers can fumble.
The difference that marks you out is that you don't let it get to you.
