you can play custom time control with otb opponents but i have not seen it used it anything else yet.

Not yet, and as far as I could tell, not custom time controls either. Just tried to receive a challenge from a 60m +10s game (End of year improver tournament, thanks to JuditSztaray from 4 comments down ;) ) and I couldn't.
