The English were the best long bowmen and were feared around the world. The longbow was the ultimate weapon and had a longer distance than any other bow and could penetrate through Armour. The enemy feared us. So what the enemy did, was capture our longbowmen and then chop of their 2 first fingers so they could never use the longbow against them again, Then at the beginning of the battle of Agincourt, against the French... The English longbowmen all lined up and lifted their right hands and showed their 2 first fingers, showing the French that they still had them so be scared, as they were all going to die from the English longbowmen. The F word was already being used, so the 2 fingered salute came to be the symbol of the F word, Hence F OFF was born using the 2 fingered salute, lol and still used today and around the world, lol
we need the names of 5 players and 2 alternates. the structure is a 16 team double round robin. teams will play in 4 groups, with 1 team advancing to the final round. 1. you will play 3 teams simultaneously, one match at a time. they will contact me to let us know which teams we are to challenge. i will contact the director the same day we start playing. 2. only our 5 person team may participate in each match. 3. games will be 3 days per move. 4. the winning team will report the results to the director within 3 day of completion. then we will move on. 5. the tie break will be 1-1 match between the sa's or admins from those teams. ratings don't apply. they will follow the same rules of play. these matches will continue until there is a single winner. once we register our 5 players the team admins and sa's will be invited. when i know more i will post it here. anyone interested just say so here. thanks TC

Determine Your ELO - What's Your Skill Level? [This is a forum from one of my own groups...] Hello, there! Thank you for reading this forum! Are you ready to determine your ELO rating? I assume you're here because you saw the word "ELO"? Well, as many of you already know, the ELO rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of chess players. If you currently are unaware of your ELO rating, then look no further! This forum, and website, will be able to help you! http://www.chessmaniac.com/ELORating/ELO_Chess_Rating.shtml This website has come to be known as the "Automated Chess Rating Utility". Before you use it, however, please know that the ELO rating you are provided with is an estimation! Your "skill level" will be determined based on ten puzzles that you provide your own answer with. Please do share the results you receive once you complete the exam! Thank you, sirs and madams! Good luck! Yours Truly, ~ CalbaMan

Hi Coat warriors. As someone who is trying to learn the London system, I have appreciated Johnsen and Kovacevic's Win with the London System. If anyone else is studying the book you might be interested in this google doc I created with URLS to all of the illustrative games: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h4G6WkmrVgp1PsYC0Stz9KnwA6IMLwV6KfE40LaSUDI/edit?hl=en_US

hello team. i have been studying some traps. i would like to start sharing some of these with the team. i hope it helps with your games. hope to hear comments. enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wntv7HrF5vQ&feature=related
We would like to start a training camp for our team where the higher ranking players could help teach some strategy to the lower ranking players and improve their chess game. We would set up a non-rated training tourney so no one will have to worry about losing any points and make the games at least 5 days per move so both players will have some time to talk about their moves and games. We want to know what the team thinks and if we get enough interest, we will set it all up in a few days after we get all the thoughts back. Thanks Team. knights_oath
It is my opinion that the Coat of Arms team should not compete in any more Vote Chess Matches until the Group decides that we will try our best not to lose game on times. We have lost three games in a row on time. I would appreciate any thoughts on this matter?
Some suggested guidelines for vote chess games: * It is "Team" vote chess - i.e. we suggest, discuss, plan and play together. * It's all about fun and is a good chance to learn from others - but this can only be achieved if we confer with each other over our moves. * Please do not vote without first having put your move(s) up for discussion. * Individuals can suggest one or more moves - preferably with plenty of time to go. * The moves are discussed and analysed, and the preferred moves will become obvious - and why. * The best result is where everyone agrees on a single move - everyone then votes for that move. * If there is more than one preferred move, people vote on which one they feel is the best. * People's geographical locations need to be taken into consideration - allow them time to read and comment. * Please do not vote until the last 24 hours of the game - this is to allow good discussion and preferred move/s to become clear. It is acknowledged that time zones may mean you have to vote with a lot of hours to go... * "Exceptions are if you know you're not going to be around in the last 24 hours, if there's a clear path to forced mate or if there's general consensus in the discussion to vote early for other reasons." * When discussing moves, please refer to them by their move number and using the notation for White and Black as follows: 1. e4 for White 1. ... e5 for Black - i.e. incude the three dots.
