Banning

What is the difference between banning someone from your club and kicking them out?

Avatar of Sonic2009

banning kicks the player out of the club and the player cant rejoin the club

kicking kicks the player out of the club and the player can rejoin the club

Avatar of josephyossi

kicking them allows them to come back

banning is like banning some one from chess.com

only more secure..

I thought banning them but not removing them stops them from leaving and trying to rejoin?

In practical terms, if you are pruning inactive member, you would wish to "kick". You would not mind that they return.

Say you are dealing with a troublemaker for your club, you may want to "ban". That way they cannot reuse an old invite or apply.

Yes I knew it used to be that way but I don't know if it is still true.

When you are banned, you cannot see any content. A final alternative, only available for SAs is mute, where you can see the club content but not post. Some clubs use mute while the admins deliberate in their HQ whether a ban is required.

This is a comment that is actually rude Sonic. Perhaps the player is not an admin and has never come across that situation before? You really wouldn't if you weren't an admin. So if you just became an admin, or perhaps started your own club, it is a very legitimate question. No matter how long somebody has been on chess.com, things do change.

And that certainly is an interesting comment coming from someone who joined 15 days ago. But I imagine you have been on here before under a different name.

Did they ever fix that bug where if you get banned you're still technically "in" that club so you can't play in a match against it?  That was a big glitch and was being abused by some unscrupulous admins to keep potential opponents out of match lineups for opponents.

Not a frequent thing maybe, but I do remember it happening.

I dont know if that's a bug. If you are banned from a club you cant leave or post or anything. You just sit there in limbo.
