Do you think you shoud allow advertising in your club

I get advertisements a lot. Not saying its not good, its just annoying how they spam links and then say your club sucks.

It is up to each club to decide whether to allow advertisement about other clubs (outside of possible dedicated forums) in their club. Most clubs do not. This is a special club which allows.

I remove it and message the person and ask them not to repeat it without my permission, with a comment that it's not generally polite to advertise without the permission of the admins.

It's reasonable to allow advertising of something related, but that can be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

Scotty. What does your post mean?

Avatar of MGleason

I interpreted it as a coded message for deleting the post and kicking the advertiser from the club.

I do not like it or allow it but it's a personal decision.

I will simply delete the note the first time and message the person asking them to not do that. If they do it again they get a warning and then 3 strikes and you're out.

I usually make a forum just for advertising, but anywhere else, I kick them

My main club is a little different than most. We don't play tournaments or team matches. We have just over 200 members that that is probably too many. We do vote chess and we socialize. That is all we do so we don't seem to have many of the problems that I hear about here in this club.

In terms of "active"members we probably only have 20 or 30. Thus my remark that we have too many members.

Absolutely not!

There have been people who joined my clubs and almost right away announced they were available to give lessons.

There have also been people who joined just to advertise their club.

I don't want it and the members have told me they don't want it.

If you allow it, then people would join your club to steal your members.

People do that all the time anyway. Join a club and then invite the members from that club to theirs. It's not really theft though. If you have a good club they won't leave, even if they also join the other one.

I never worry about people leaving my club.

Stealing the people is not an issue. But the members that get alerted just to see ads is. So, I would delete the comment and send not very polite message to the person.

Yes, I agree with @Burzum78 that spamming is the real problem here. One person occasionally advertising their rival club might not matter much in itself, but if you allow it then other members with their own clubs might feel entitled to advertise theirs too, and that will quickly get out of hand.
