Has the new member profile page made life harder for Admins?

The high profile events and tournaments and the involvement of titled players on Chess.com are the headlines and the publicity of this excellent chess website.

However, the bedrock and the enduring continuance of the site are the many active groups which are maintained by the numerous unpaid volunteers who keep the clubs running.

The latest changes to the member profile page has, in my opinion, made the job of these admins harder. One extra click on a profile page may not seem like a big deal but when you are dealing with invites, messaging and game recruitment it all adds up.

Chess.com developers need to think about how these facilities are used by the majority not just how it looks to the top end users and high profile players.

This also applies to the REST API which is now getting no support what-so-ever.

Sorry, what is the extra click? Are you talking about how you need to click the more button to invite them?

When you go to a member's profile, you have to click on "Daily" and then scroll down just to see their timeout ratio and other stats. Whereas before, there was a dropdown in which we could see a few stats

Oh yeah, that's true... but it is easier to just get that data from the API...

Not just that. Also the individual invite is one deeper. Yes you can do a bulk invite but I prefer to address the member by his given name if published.

Yeah, true

New profile view is not something I'd ever wish for.

Probably done that way to spare DB server some load, without any care for our needs, making those who seek information on user's profile frustrated.

Popup menus another stupid idea, constantly annoying and disturbing view when viewing anything on site, especially when playing live chess.

There is so many changes done lately for which I see no practical reason other than sparing servers from load, like it can be done with millions of users logged in at any given time period.

I liked it better also the way it was.  It was easier to see timeout rates of club members.  Now it is more difficult.  Agree.

I've heard those stats are coming back, and that the current stats display is a work in progress.  I don't know why it was released like this, though.

Another change which makes it harder!

When you click on a member name the popup no longer has "message" option. Replaced with "chat".

If you need to send a message you now have to go to member profile page.

Thanks developers. Really making this more difficult for admins.

But it looks pretty.

Yeah, I don't like that either.  Worse yet, I have one of those chat popups stuck open and I can't get rid of it.  Actually, I have two every time I load a chess.com page, but I can close one of them.

I was able to get rid of the stuck popup by clearing all chess.com cookies.

When sending messages, I put a list of links in a forum post and with ease use the popup message link and paste in the message. Very simple. Not any more.

Me too ! Finally closed 2 chat pop ups on iPad. I couldn’t  remove on my phone.

How can you do a bulk invite now??

Relating to cookies and cache clearing, kind of a pain in the ass when you do that because it's as soon as you open up the site the theme that you have on there before has to reload thereby taking up data. And then after the board is black when I look at it. Very troubling.

Hi guys, it's difficult to comment on the impact of such changes on admin workflow, but in making changes, we are thinking about the experience of the average user first. There is a tradeoff between having everything be available in one click for power users and having a more complicated user interface. We want a cleaner and more fun user interface for the average user. We've had a really good response to that! If there are features that are missing or aren't working right, please do report a bug or make a suggestion, but I don't think we will make major changes to how user profiles look very soon.

Chat not going away is definitely a bug, and we would LOVE a report on that via the "?" button in the bottom left. It's really helpful to have a bug report from the account it's happening on so we know the type of browser and other info.

Thanks for the feedback Sam. Yes I appreciate that the general members needs and involvement are paramount in keeping this site active and vibrant. Please remember that they are engaged to a great extent by the group and club activity which is maintained by the huge number of volunteer admins. You won't get the same level of participation if the admins get pissed off and stop.

Having said that this is still a great site and worth the expenditure.

PS The admins are also users.
