How To Post A Vote Chess Diagram.

Creating a diagram is quite quick and easy once you know how. Step 1.

Usually in vote chess you want the FEN of the position and not the whole game. You get the FEN by clicking the download icon:

Once the pop-up window appears, click on the FEN or PGN as appropriate, copy the selected text (Edit->Copy, or Cmd-C (Mac) or Ctrl-C (Windows)) and after that close the pop-up:

Step 2.
Next you want to create the diagram in your post by clicking on the chessboard icon at the top of the text entry area:

Step 3.
Once the diagram creation window pops up, there are three tasks to do:
Enter the FEN (or if you want the whole game, PGN)
Set any Theme details (I typically have black at the bottom if the team is playing black)
Enter the moves of the line(s) you are describing.
Choose "Load FEN" or "Load PGN" as appropriate, and paste in the text you copied in Step 2. The diagram will then immediately show the position, and you can click on "Theme" to change any details.
The details I think essential are:
"Flip Board" if you want black at the bottom
"Coordinates" should be set. Even if you prefer to leave them off in your own games, they're appopriate especially if black is at the bottom of the screen
The pieces and board colour will default to whatever you use. Good solid choices for diagrams are "Classic" for the pieces and one of "Blue", "Brown" or "Green" for the board. This is a matter of taste, but keep it simple! If you are using a PGN and a move is highlighted in yellow that looks awkward on "Walnut" for example, and "Glass" is considered ugly by many people. "Orange" is fine for Halloween ...
After setting Theme details click on "Moves" and enter your moves.
If you have multiple lines enter them one line at a time going back to the move prior to an alternative line and then entering the moves of the second, third etc lines. This part is most easily learned by experimentation.
When you're finished, click "Insert".

"Insert" will show a placeholder in your post. Add any text you want and then "Post" as usual.

Final notes:
If you have used a PGN, to set the start position right click on the current move and choose "Set Focus" so that the diagram starts on that position. On move 23 it's irritating to be shown the game's starting position. This is another reason to typically prefer starting from a FEN
There is no easy way to edit a diagram after you've posted it. The method (without window captures) is to copy the information from the old diagram, delete it and re-create it:
Click "Analyse" (lower left on the diagram) to bring up a new tab in your browser
In the new tab the diagram's starting position is shown, including (when you've started from a FEN) the FEN text in a text area in the lower right. Select and copy the FEN
Back in your original tab edit your post, delete the diagram and create a new one from the FEN you copied and re-enter the moves with your corrections or updates, select "Insert" and then update your post with "Update".
