We were facing each other off in the middle. Immy kept backing up, and I kept advancing. Therefore, if he shot it at the middle, he shot it past me
You never moved forward. You only sidestepped and 322'd.

He kept backing up, so by default in order to get into swinging range I had to move forward
but he said to swing at you, and you dodged. I also said the swings would hit if you didn't dodge. If you retreated, that implies type advanced.

Yeah.
In KOTL, if you say you punch someone, and you're not in range, you don't punch air that is in their direction, you walk up to them and punch them.
