Promotion

Bishop, Chancellor, Archbishop, General, Knight, Queen, Rook on the 8th rank

Note

This is the revised version of Royal Court. I have tried several variations of this position, but the only games I am providing are from the variation I like the most of these. What I like the most about this variation is that it does not leave unprotected or pseudo-protected Pawns and takes advantage of the feature of the 10x8 board where the long diagonal is not unique to save both tempi taken by fianchettoing a Bishop. I hope you like it.

Status: Declined

Reason: The gameplay is too sharp: while crazyhouse gothic is much less sharp when compared to this given the fact that it is possible to survive the attacks of dropped HE, this, even with 2 drops per a player max, is way sharper and as such is not enough balanced and varied. Only a specific set of openings can survive here, with the rest giving a winning edge to the other player.

I don't think this will get accepted, but it is a great variant on the Seirawan.

please add shogi pieces, it would be good

Strangely enough, the original description of Carrera’s new chess reads more like a theory of what may be playable on a 10x8 board than legislation of what to play on a 10x8 board. Although interesting, Carrera’s definitions of the Centauro and Campione make an inferior variant from the position he gives, not in the least because it makes them feel like they are just in the game to complicate getting the King to safety, especially if it did not leap under the Sicilian rules. Don’t you think that if in Japan and Mongolia they already knew the “shogi” pieces Rook+King and Bishop+King independently as far as we understand, perhaps they already knew them independently elsewhere in the Old World too?

I did it to compensate for Gothic Chess having less perfect symmetry than Chess (100% mirror, 60 vs. 75% rotational).

I mean... you just admitted to intentionally copying another variant, and it's barely any different

this is getting autodeclined

If you want to go there, Gothic Chess is technically “copied” off of another variant, and it's barely any different if you pick the correct one (i. e. Bird’s chess). You just admitted to potentially wanting to subvert the entire chess.com variant subproject piece by piece because the tools for aiding it aren’t flexible enough.

Let me clarify: we have a rule against copying positions already listed in the variants server, like Gothic Chess. I have no idea what Bird's chess is, but it's not listed on chess.com. Gothic chess is based off of Capablanca Chess, which is fine because we don't also have Capablanca chess. Why would we list two positions that are essentially the same? That's absurd, and we've autodeclined on similarity grounds for much less similar variants in the past.

Also, the second sentence of your post makes literally no sense lmao

It’s actually Embassy chess (Grand Chess adapted to a 10x8 board, but incomplete even for that). Neither position already exists on the server. My second try of this variant was literally adding Generals off the board to Gothic Chess, which is technically acceptable, but in my defense, I found the variation too subtle to submit for testing.

I don't care what you call it lol it's literally 1 change from gothic chess

I jumped the gun on this anyway, I like the Hawk enough more than Elephant that I should just change the board to 11x8 to make room for a second one and then re-submit it.
