Our best games with the Sicilian Defense

I thought it was a good idea to have a place to share those good games we have with the Sicilian, so that others can review them and find good ideas for their game.

In this case, I will leave a game that I think is a good example of rearranging the plans. Personally, my game is almost always based on the fianchetto bishop, and I try to avoid changing it as much as possible, but not at the cost of passivity or spoiling my structure. So in this case I assume the change and plan to use it to my advantage.

Here's a game against a very high rated player, IM John Donaldson, many time captain of the US Chess Olympiad teams.  He played the Sicilian, and I lost, but I put up a good fight.  He's a great guy, and we had a very friendly and enjoyable post-mortem after the game.

Well, when it comes down to fighting the sicilian, I have what I think would be a good one. Though I did blunder a couple times in the game. (And by that I mean that endgame and that massive series of trades that went down to bring it to that was terribly wrong on several fronts.) In this game I played white.

After that I stopped notating due to time pressure. Needless to say though, I won that game.

I love the Taimanov Sicilian due to how flexible it is, it's also easier to play than something like the najdorf. A few themes to take away from this is a common way I end up attacking the king, using space on the queenside as well as the great diagonals granted to my queen and bishops. Many players love to trade a bishop for a knight on f6 in order to double pawns and make the kingside unsafe, but it's worth judging on a case by case basis as black's king can end up quite safe in the center, while the open g file makes the rook a powerhouse.
