While I was studying environmental science (with an inkling of writing about polar bear conservation), a friend gifted me with a trip to Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund mid-2018. I saw no animals, though I did see a helicopter tracking a lone bear. I most enjoyed the hours I spent in a public library down the street from the Funken Lodge , browsing several books "by Magnus Carlsen" that I don't think he really had anything to do with. I visited the Oslo Chess Club on my last night there, and got crushed in a 5-minute tournament.

That's Longyearbyen, where all the scientists live in tiny huts on stilts.

I've never been to that island.
You are like the Joker, often traveling around Europe.

Reykjavik was the transfer point for my flight to Norway, so I spent the whole time looking for Fischer-Spassky memorabilia at the airport, and no one knew what the heck I was talking about.
