Team match scores incorrect - again - Chess Forums

The problem we had a few months ago with team match scores being calculated incorrectly seems to be back. The following matches from leagues I help run have incorrect calculated scores.

You can see it most easily with the first one. The score shows as 0-0, but there's 2 points awarded to Space Travelers due to games completed. In each case I list the scores as they should be.

Martin, is this bug in hand to be fixed or do we need to work around it for the foreseeable future?

It's been an issue for several years that I know of, so I don't have high hopes it's going away any time soon. Not actually a problem for me because I recalculate all team scores in matches from their individual game results, ignoring the site's scores altogether, but member admins in leagues sometimes question why my results are at odds with the site.

Then I have to explain yet again that chess.com is unable to maintain reliable and accurate team scores. Not a great look!

Though I appreciate you sync'ing the scores, that's only hiding the problem. The problem is that they are incorrect in the first place. That means that we can't trust the scores that chess.com displays on any match. Will this be investigated and fixed, do you think Martin?

On that second list, some already looked correct and most of the rest should be fixed.

I'm not exactly sure. I would need to look if there's an open ticket about it but I think there is.

I found an old ticket that was listed as complete in early Summer. Another ticket has been recently entered and I have pinged staff on it.

I just came here to bring this up, and see that I'm not the only one who has noticed it.
I had just done a Sync Score in a WL match, a 1WL match, and a Friendly match. I have no idea if they are on that extensive list above.

I'm thinking that perhaps no match scores are updating.

I think many matches whose scores were corrected are now again out of sync.
There's no point synchronizing scores on individual matches, they will just become incorrect again when some games complete. The root cause needs to be fixed.

@ImperfectAge: Sounds logic. And it's really difficult to understand that Chess.com has not managed to solve the issue within several months.

I begin to think all that isn't a bug but a planned change, maybe not fully implemented. Otherwise it wouldn't keep coming back.

@Ximoon: Do you have an idea what might be the intended result of a fully implemented change? Until now it's visible, that they aren't intending to fix the incorrect match results. Quite easy to understand that synchronizing results for reported matches only is simply ridiculous.

I'd doubt that myself because it looks so bad for a competitive site to be unable to maintain accurate team scores for something as basic as an inter-club match. More probably this is about the short term financial cost versus the longer term reputational cost and it may be it would be too expensive to fix?

I can still remember a persistent bug in the site's analysis board many years ago and I spent about five years trying to get the site to fix that. It was fixed eventually but only because the site upgraded from version 2 to 3. So perhaps we need to be patient and wait for version 4? 😉

Another explanation is that the site contracts out 'functional blocks' to third party providers and the problem we're seeing lies there, with the contractor. That would would mean it wouldn't be entirely within the control of chess.com.

Maybe Martin could enlighten us on that point? .....

My hypothesis was more around misalignment between bits and pieces of the code. Maybe they are doing some deep changes on something and haven't aligned the rest.

We've seen in the past bugs being created by backend changes.

Maybe il totally wrong and it's just a bug.
