Absolutely!! You are #74 on the ladder right now, and since there's 80 members, you can challenge up to 8 rungs higher than yourself. So the people you can challenge are:

OK, I have a slight dilemma, or better said, we have a problem with inactivity.
ATM, I'm #37. I can challenge numbers 29 to 36.
Of those 8, three haven't played a game on chess.com in months. One (Anirac) got his account closed due to cheating. Two have ratings well below mine (I'd consider it bad form to challenge those, especially since I once lost due to a very silly mistake in a previous challenge), one has a rating very much above mine and hasn't played a single game in the ladder tournament, so I doubt he's interested (he could have been in the top 10 if not top 5). Leaves one person within 350 points of me, but he's barely above me on the ladder.
The idea behind a ladder tourney is - if I'm not mistaken - to eventually offer games of an interesting level. Since quite a few people on the ladder aren't really interested or have dropped off the chess.com radar completely, it's not working as intended.
I'll challenge ches1er (#34) for the time being, but we might reconsider this setup. Should I win, the pickings in the 26-33 bracket are even slimmer (as it looks now, I might find no available opponent there below 2000 rating).
I think this problem could be solved by removing inactive accounts in chess.com and closed acounts from the ladder. They are not participating , and are making number in the list, and if all 8 players above are not available, then the member gets stucked in the position without chances of going up.
the solution is what i said, removing those inactive accounts in chess.com and closed accounts.
Ok, the ladder is now up-to-date again. We appear to have 4 challenges in progress at the moment. If there are any more, please let me know. Also, it would be very helpful to me if you would post the link here when the challenge has been accepted. Thanks.
I have gone thru and removed anyone who didn't have at least one game currently in progress, so any of the people above you on the ladder now should be available. There were about 2 dozen that got moved to the bottom of the ladder as unavailable. I left them on there so that you may still challenge up to 8 rungs above you. If everyone who was unavailable were simply removed, you would only be able to challenge up to 5 rungs. If anyone declines a challenge, please let me know so that I may list them as unavailable also. Thanks.
