What is going on with the Rockies?

With their home run friendly ballpark and the ability to go off on huge win streaks (such as that incredible one that took them to the playoffs a couple years back)...it is really easy to root for the Rockies even though I have no ties to Colorado. Unless they are playing the Mariners of course, whom they just swept.

The Rockies traditionally have been a homerun ballpark, but what they have been doing in the last few years is keeping the balls in a humidifyer, which helps the ball stay a tad bit truer. The Rox have not been winning the last few years from the long ball, but by playing with streaky emotion and confidence. Despite a "homerun" ballpark, the Rockies haven't had a 40+ homerun guy in years. Coors field doesn't compare to the Phillies' park, which is by far the leader in homeruns. The only stat that is rather high for the Rox is batting average.
People are stuck with the idea that the Rockies have been winning only because they are in an offensive ballpark. We should definatly give the Rox credit, because both the home and visiting team play within this setting. Right now the Rockies are a winning team on the road, which speaks well. They will be going for a winning record at home tonight against the suprising Bucs.
buffalorock, your Mariners have improved so much from the dissapointing season last year. Any team would love to take Ichiro, who will be a hall-of-famer, and Branyon is looking formidable. I played baseball with your closer Aardsma in high school, and if he keeps his fastball moving he will be excellent.

I played for a great program in Colorado while in high school. Aardsma was a year ahead of me. Josh Bard is the starting catcher for the Nationals. Brad Lidge is the closer for the WS champ Phillies. Darnell McDonald started in center field for the Reds on opening day. I played fall ball with Luke Hochevar(starting pitcher for the Royals.) Our high school baseball program was fortunate with athletic talent.
At our high school, 3800 students we had 150 kids try out for freshman baseball. Therefore we fielded two freshman teams. ("A" team, "B" team) Funny thing was that Aardsma made the B team of the Freshman teams, and didn't start Varsity until his Junior year. Lidge was a position player, and only pitched in his senior year in high school. Go figure.
We talk about the bandwagon Red Sox, Yankees, and Cubs, but what about the Colorado Rockies? I've been watching them for two weeks now, 20-32 and now they beat the Rays today and are now an astounding 33-33 turn-around in a short time. Not a lot of tradition being around for less than a decade, but these guys are dangerous. They defy the beliefs in fore front runners, and possibly another World Series trip? Maybe they don't need the fans who can only identify only with those who discuss around the water cooler at work.
I'm hoping for an Atlanta vs Colorado NLCS, and a rematch for Colorado against the Red Sox this year in the WS.
