If you want to send me a private message, you’re welcome to use my PGP key to encrypt your message before sending it to me That way, you (the sender) and me (the recipient) are the only ones who can possibly read it.

You can also use my PGP key to verify the signature on my posts. That way, if my account were to somehow get hacked (God forbid) and I’m suddenly messaging you with a link to some malicious scam site or something, then you’ll know right away not to trust that message, since the hacker won’t be able to replicate the signature. I doubt that will ever actually happen, but I think it’s a good security practice nonetheless.

That’s actually the main reason why I decided to begin signing my posts and messages on Chess.com. But having guaranteed End-to-End Encryption is also nice.

Here is my PGP key, in ascii-armour format:

How to import my key:

Simply copy and paste the text above into your preferred text editor (including the lines that say BEGIN PGP and END PGP, as well as the hyphens on either side).
Save it as linedodger.asc
Import linedodger.asc into your preferred PGP manager (I recommend GPG4Win if you’re using Windows, or Kleopatra if you’re using Linux. I don’t know any that work on Apple though, sorry)
That’s it. You now have my PGP key.

If you wanna verify one of my posts:

Copy and paste my post into your preferred text editor
Save it as linedodgers-post.txt
Use your PGP manager to verify linedodgers-post.txt
It should say that it was verified and is trustworthy.
If it says it’s untrustworthy, double-check to make sure you correctly copied and pasted the text into your text editor (if you didn’t, then you’ll definitely get an error).

And that’s it, it’s that easy.

Why is PGP important?

By encrypting your data yourself, you know for 100% sure that it really is encrypted. Browsers can sometimes be subject to things like SSL stripping and MITM attacks from hackers. Browsers like Google Chrome have been confirmed to spy on their userbase (trust me, Google is reading all of your data unless you encrypt it yourself).

By encrypting your data yourself, you can just avoid all of that headache.

PGP is also very useful for verifying that something was truly posted by a particular person (as described above).
