I started playing chess when my dad taught me in 1969. Was a high school number 5 board for St Georges in 1972. I transfered to Mead High School in 1973 and was their 1st board in 1973 & 74. Defeated the number 1 board for St Georges, home and away in 1974. St Georges and Mead competed in a 11 team, High School League, 5 v 5 boards in Spokane, Washington. I currently live on the Central Oregon Coast. My highest rating in Chess was 1864 in WCF Washington Chess Federation but it did lower since it was provisional. My highest USCF rating was 1648. I am currently 1470 class C rated.

I quit chess for 30 years and my first tournament back, I went 4W - 1L in the Newport Open in 2009. Also played in the Western States Open in 2009 and went 1W - 3D - 2L's in Reno Nevada. Have had some health problems and was in the Central Coast Chess Club until 2011. I am now in the Pioneer Joe Chess Club in Lincoln County. I play out of Pioneer Joe Coffee Co at Salishan Resort & Country Club just South of Lincoln City. I participated in 5 tournaments in 2024. All non-uscf before Pioneer Joe Chess Club was USCF accredited. 1st in March, May & June, 2nd in April. Pioneer Joe's went to a 10/0 rapid in July, and not ever playing speed chess before, I took 5th in July. I am a Classical player, but am learning speed chess the best that an old man can, taking my lumps along the way.
