I think it's the method of manufacture...the bottom piece is turned, the top piece is carved separatly and then fitted on top.

Love the pieces.

so do i.

i really like this design.

i cutted a slice of the knight. now it is shorter then bishop....

...

Are you saying you have changed the original proportions? But they looked great! Pretty crazy..

There are many sets that have taller knights than bishops:

Spanish pieces

French pieces

Danish pieces

You have done it without trace, maybe you can restore the original height, as well? Quite the challenge, I agree happy.png

oh, Powderdigit showed us this one, here is the thread:

I have got another one, for comparison, please:

It's Cafe de la Regence-style! Yes, they had these very close pawns, queens and bishops.

To make it even more difficult, here is the famous directoire, as presented in his collection by Holger Langer ( https://www.chess-collection.de )

This one is dated 1826. Les chevaliers plus hauts que les fous.

did you 3D print these pieces with resin?

Avatar of RicJoia

Hello,

These pieces are originally by wood (Bonatto - 1968), i just ordered to print the missing pieces (3 knights + 1 bishop). I made the painting mix to match the wood "colour"....i think that a ended up a very good result...

by the way, i was able to modelling all the pieces (allowing 3d printing if requested)
