Club OTB Sets?

So the subject says it all. I started a club, we have some old donated boards but our library will buy us a few since we have so many members already.

What should we get?

Any club I've been to has the standard roll up vinyl boards and solid, not weighted, plastic chess pieces. The weighted don't hold up as well.

Thank you for the suggestions. @RussBell The photo on top of that thread is the one that I've been leaning towards.

Of the plastic sets cited in the article, for personal use* my preference is also the Bobby Fischer Ultimate Chess Pieces (V3).  For feel, weight, durability and overall playability you will not find a better plastic set.  This is superb set for casual, club or tournament play.   Be sure to check the customer reviews on the website (the owner is @ShelbyLohrman who frequently posts on Chess.com)......

* for bulk purchase, to hand out to club members for use at the club, if might be prudent, and certainly less costly, to consider something like the the Reykjavik Series Pieces from Wholesale Chess (which are similar in design to the Ultimate Pieces - except for the pawn)...

Oh wow, yeah those would be a step up from what we have currently. Thanks for the info!

Our chess group organizer bought these and we like them, they've held up quite well over the past several months: https://www.houseofstaunton.com/triple-weighted-regulation-colored-plastic-chessmen.html

Likely, the library already made a purchase, but members might like this for personal use.

Hope your club is still active!

Wow! What a deal! We actually haven't purchased anything more yet, but this is definitely what I will propose to my programs director. Do you know of anywhere you can get just like a stack of tournament size boards that are just made out of cardstock or something? We have 5 full sets and then most players will bring a set as well but our boards/mats are the main thing we need to replace. If I could get like a dozen cardstock boards, that would be a very attractive option for my library vs. replacing a couple mat boards.

Surely this exists right? If it doesn't, then you and I should start a business selling quality card stock boards for clubs. I just can't seem to think of the correct keywords to find it maybe... Thank you again for this referral. I may just go ahead and get some of these and pay for them myself it's such a good deal. happy.png

Usually you use paper boards for that sort of thing, There are so many places to get paper boards, but this is the link to HoS, since your other chess set recommendation is from there.

Very nice! I knew that had to be a cheap option, I guess I was just looking in the wrong places. Thanks again!
