A Very Interesting New Work by Oleg Raikis

MGT88

Oleg received a commission recently to create a handful of pieces missing from an old set; the set depicts an attack, instead of a battle (as is usually the case), of an army upon a town of civilians, which is very interesting. Based upon the intricate detail/carving quality/etc., Oleg believes the original set to be the work of a master. Oleg advised me there is quite a bit of interest in this set in the collector world, and he has already received commissions for replicas from a few high-end collectors.

From Oleg:

"I recently finished a very interesting work. This unique chess set looks like a 19 c, Swiss master. There were lacked 6 pieces: 2 knights of each side and 1 rook of each side. I have tried to create and make these pieces according to the style, technique, and plot of the Master."

As nice as it looks, it doesn't resemble a chess set at all.

Wow. Even the pawns are unique. Which rooks did Oleg carve? It's so good I can't tell. And since the pieces are unique, how did he know what form to carve the missing rooks as?

Wow! That's amazing. Did he recreate the missing knights and rook based upon photos?

@Pawnerai : I believe he created the rectangular tower and the cannon.

@Pawnerai and @MCH818 : He was given creative license to design/create the knights/rooks because photos (or even descriptions) of the missing original pieces do not exist.

Ok that makes sense. That's really cool. I agree with @Pawnerai. I couldn't even tell which one he made.

Similar to The Isle Of Lewis Chessmen, hopefully one day the 4 missing Knights and 2 missing Rooks will reappear after spending decades in someone's cabinet and the set will take a few steps to be fully reunited. I can only imagine how splendid those missing 6 look if these 26 incredible pieces are what the person declined to take.
