Yeah he got extra queens, extra pawns, and extra knights. Paid extra for it too.

So I should buy NOJ then huh? How much do they pay you guys to trash all other chess sets?

It's OK.  If you must have wood, then for the bucks, it seems a decent enough set.  I've found 12" to be just about the right size.  I prefer well formed plastic pieces in this price range, but each to their own.

So Mike, exactly which Noj set did you just order?

You obviously have a Noj bug up your, you know what, today.

You know, you get what you pay for from The House of Staunton, The Chess House, Official Staunton, and a host of other quality sellers.

In fact the last 3 sets I bought were from The House of Staunton, 2 sets in wood of course, and The Chess House, Anjanwood Ultimate set which I got yesterday and will review in the near future.

Note, there are a good number of Noj sets I have not and will not buy, even though a good number of posters here raved about being so good.  I just don’t prefer the looks of those sets.  

I have not nor will not make bad comments about those or any other sets I choose not to buy.

Just to be clear, I grew up in the '60s in grade school and this is what I remember of past used avatar images...

...Just saying to be clear. I like Noj, I'm ordering their BCE Stage 1 Western Style "Blitz Set" in brown stained maple and maple when made available for sale later on this year and perhaps the Eastern version as well in the same type of stained woods. I collect BTW - FYI. 

Dont be silly. Noj dont even make magnetic sets. But the set you linked is a waste of money. there are alot of mass produced travel sets that use those types of chess pieces. sometimes they bundle them with realy nice travel boards (not in this case) and i have bought a couple sets for the boards to pair up with different chess sets, but the pieces that come with them are utter trash, very tall compared to how thin narow the bases are, ill defined, magnets tend to be terrible. I have thrown several such sets out and kept the boards.

Good quality travel sets are hard to find, in wood the best source i found are from “House of Chess”, in plastic there are a couple chess sets on amazon that are ok but most are not. There are ones called “travel mate pro” or some such that seem to be hand made and very nice but at 180$ are way beyond what i want to pay for a travel set

these sets are all made at the same one or two factories in china, the pieces are nearly identical in design and quality, there is some difference in the type of boards they are paired with and they come in several sizes. in the west you can buy them under different “brand” names but basically you are paying extra 10-20$ for the name on the outer cardboard box. You can also buy these types pieces without the board for about 1 dollar and 45 cents and another 2$ in shipping. Which is about right for the value they offer.

I don't use NOJ sets. I see it as kindling.
