"Better Quality" Plastic Chess Sets from Wholesale Chess (USA)

MikeDoolzinski

That's the set I almost ordered. I can deal with the loose weights as I've learned how to fix them, but if they came all scratchy, that'd be a deal breaker. I paid for a new set. Not one that has probably been used and returned, refurbished and resold. Nope!

Normally, I'd suggest that, too. But there are so many complaints among the customer reviews about these scratches, I think it's fair to assume the scratches just come with the territory.

Finally finally wink.png, I ordered some alternate color combinations of my two favourite sets, the "Marshall" and the "Hastings".

This is the Marshall set in "natural" and black:

Aaand, the Hastings Set in ivory white and burgundy.

I do love the Hastings set. happy.png

What I said before about the manufacturing quality and design of these sets applies here, too - naturally. Among the ivory sets, if you don't like the natural color for white, I'd recommend the Hastings Set for this - very few blemishes, if any.

This concludes my little survey of "better" plastic sets available  from Wholesale Chess/House of Staunton. Some of these sets can also be bought from other vendors (Chess House, or some eBay sellers) with the same or very similar price tags.

Thanks a lot sound!  Now I need to get a Hastings in that ivory white and burgundy. Those colors are sharp, great.

Reminds me of OU or Red Velvet Cake.

Everybody is on these red/burgundy sets. Are they tournament friendly or is it just a leasure thing.

@sound67 Now that you've covered all the plastic sets, you'll have to buy all their wood sets and give us a review. 😎

Nice reviews. Beautiful pictures. What setup do you use to take pictures?

Do you play blitz? What is the set you consider the best for it?

I used my Huawei P30 Pro in "Night Mode" - which brings out the details. I use that mode for almost everything, including daytime landscape shots.

I dont enjoy speed chess as much as I used to, must be the age. It really depends: If you enjoy heavier pieces, then the Premier set is great because they have the greatest stability on the board.

Eventually I took the Marshall set with me on holiday, and playing with them is good fun down at the pub.

Das ist reichhaltig, wenn man von einem Mann kommt, der die meiste Zeit hier verbringt, um die Zustimmung anderer zu erhalten. Frued würde einen Feldtag mit dir auf seiner Couch haben.
