Chess Ebay Problem

ElephantHistorian

Hello!

As many of you know, I've been looking for one of those nice slotted leather pocket sets for quite some time now. Well yesterday I won an action for one! Unfortunately, the seller is located in the UK and he won't respond to my shipping cost requests so I can't pay for that so it can come over. For clarification I'm more than happy to pay for the extra shipping.

These sets only pop up very rarely so how can I manage to get him to sell it to me? Should I contact ebay?

Thanks!

Is it a shipping problem, or a currency exchange issue? I'm not sure how international purchases are managed when the currencies are different, but I'm going to assume that e-bay has a provision for this. I would be interested in learning myself.

Hello ElephantHistorian,

I've been winning chess books and chess sets since 1999 from eBay sellers, mostly in the US but also in the UK, the Ukraine and Switzerland, and never had this problem.  Of course, I always read the listing carefully and make sure the seller ships internationally; some do not.  Check the listing to see if the seller wrote "ships only within the U.K.." or something of this nature.  Then again, why would the listing be on eBay instead of eBay.uk if he only ships locally; often U.K. sellers list on both sites.

I don't know how long you've waited for a response, but give it three days; then you should call eBay with your complaint or open one on-line.  I personally like calling.  But remember, it all depends upon the original listing.

Good luck!

Bob

Thanks so much @fightingbob and @vickalan for the support I am now the proud owner of a beautiful set! Should I post it on the travel set thread?

I believe most people talk about equipment right on this forum (books and equipment). I don't visit here often, but if you'd like to share a pic I will definitely check it out.happy.png
