Hey, tha manual says "the playing probability of a move in an opening book" can be changed with "Edit percents", and the "Discarded moves tree" can be used as a mask to force or forbid certain openings. The same manual also states that Aquarium's opening books are built from carefully selected theoretical games and the moves are color-coded as recommended, not recommended, neutral, etc. So, if the engine keeps choosing 1.e4 or 1.d4, the fix is to use a broader opening book, adjust the move percentages inside the book, or create a discarded-moves tree that filters out the main-line choices you don't want. In simple terms, the variety has to be built into the book/repertoire; increasing the analysis tree width does not directly widen the engine's opening book choices, because Aquarium's manual says tree width affects the analysis tree, not the opening book itself. A reasonable setup would be to give secondary opening moves non-zero percentages, lower the "dominance" of the main green lines, and then use a discarded-moves tree to force rarer branches when you want to be surprised. That's an "inference" from Aquarium's documented controls, but it's the most direct way to get the behavior he's asking for. Ciao ![]()
Hey guys, I can't figure out how to increase opening book variety in Aquarium.
I've tried to mess with the opening books settings a little but it doesn't seem to do much plus I have no clue what most of the variables mean.
Every engine I use, will only ever play E4 or D4 as white and there is not much variety as black either.
I would really like the engine to surprise me with obscure openings or at least play a large number of opening moves.
I've only tried to increase 'book width' but the engine still just plays E4 or D4 and some very rare occasion C4.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
