It's overly clear that Eyechess likes to hate on DGT for some reason. But in reality he should thank DGT, because of DGT he's able to watch the games of his favourite players live on the internet. You don't have to buy the board if you can't afford it, or if you think they are too expensive. Simple as that. I personally think that they are extremely practical and beautifully crafted, and well worth every penny. But that's just my opinion.

Perhaps you indeed have a problem with understanding and using the English Language.

I did not say that the Saitek and Excalibur clocks are better than any DGT clock.  I did say that those clocks were better than the DGT clocks of that time.

I never said I thought that any of the electronic Chess boards were better than  any other one.  Please correct yourself on that.

I do not hate on any Chess company and their products.  I have owned a DGT electronic board setup and used it until a friend wanted it for use in his club where he was providing norm tournaments.

I also currently own and use the DGT 3000 and the DGT 960 clocks.

There are some clocks that have better characteristics than these clocks and I have pointed that out.

If you feel and insist I am biased against DGT and their products you are completely wrong.

You, on the other hand, certainly are saying wrong things about other products like the Chronos.

Note that I have said on this forum that the Chronos clock is not perfect.  In fact there is no clock that exists today that I would say is perfect. They all have their own weaknesses.

Also, please stop attacking me personally.  I have not said anything bad about you or anyone else except the confirmed troll who is currently using the handle, Chessopera.

DGT boards are the best despite what ill-informed trolls say. These trolls like Eyechess know nothing about chess just going round in forums uninvited throwing in irrelevant ideas as they are envious of any top quality company and product which are much better than the bad quality  ones their bosses sell. chess.com must ban such nuisance time-wasting people on here

Boy, that was a well thought out and cogent statement, NOT.

Staying on topic, the DGT boards are evidently not worth the cost, especially with these new boards on the market.

If it is to play an OTB chess game, I think the DGT e-board is probably the best on the market right now because of the following:

- Excellent detection range.  If you put a piece on the line (but mostly within the square), the DGT recognize it correctly. This feature is needed for natural movement.

- Individual piece recognition.  This allows one to play without any computer/screen attachment. Because of this feature, it'll always record promotions and illegal moves correctly, which is needed to play USCF chess.

If I get some time, I'll post a demo on DGT e-board's detection range vs my various e-board range.  I have e-boards that can detect just as well as the DGT but they don't look as nice. (Actually, in my old demo, I've shown that even my induction e-board, which doesn't have as good range as my magnetic e-board, can already detect nearly as well at the DGT but at the expense of begin a bit ugly).

If others have some time, we can cooperate and post videos of all the e-board detection ranges.  We just need to standardize on the piece (e.g. king, bishop, and pawn) and the square and measurement.

mgx9600. Where are all these wonderful boards, how much do they cost, what drivers are available, what software and websites are they compatible with? Then we can talk specs. After all if we can't use them with software we have, then the comparison is moot.

The e-boards I'm referring to are the various e-boards people own on this forum.  For example, I can post info on the DGT Bluetooth e-board (and my DIY e-boards if there's any interest).

DGT = $900; My various DIY e-boards range in price from $100-$400 in materials.

I'm not too interested in software support.  The test outlined is mainly a sensing technology test to check for natural play applicability.

I totally agree that DGT board is the best e-board on the market. New dgt technology coming out soon too!

Could you specify what type of player the new dgt technology is aimed at? Is it worth the wait for a casual player?

Also, when is soon? Life is short, and daddy wants new toys :-)

Chessopera is in the business of selling Chess equipment.  He has never identified himself as such but has been recently fund out.

He has attacked, insulted and given false and fake information under the guise of not being a seller, which he actually is.

I’ve always wanted a dgt board or even one of these new square off boards. The price is a little too expensive. I simply want to touch real pieces when I play online opponents.

So I made a set of pieces that work on your iPad or touch tablet.

You can check them out here! Waaaaaay less expensive and you can visualize and feel the game in a more Over-the-board way.

I’m trying to get the word out across a lot of topics where I see people talking about wanting to touch and play with real pieces while enjoying their chess.com experience.

I'm very interested in new e-boards because it is a hobby of mine.

Do you have a demo video on youtube?

Just a few quick thoughts, what's the max number of touch points supported on the iPad?  For many Android tablets, it is 10.

Avatar of dtrasatti
The iPad has 11, however you only need one when playing with these pieces. The app is doing all the work for the player. The pieces act to either register moves or mark the board setup in 3D.

Check out the video here

Thanks for the video.  Looks good; I see you are using your hand for touch thru the pieces.

That’s right! The pieces are basically a stylus

hi there webiron,

from my personal experience in owning both the USB and Bluetooth DGT boards i can personally say from my experience with the product that the Bluetooth board is by far the best board i've had, i love it !! it pretty much works flawlessly 85% of the time ! as for the USB board i myself had nothing but problems with connection issues aswell very difficult trying to get the board to maintain a stable connection was a royal pain in the arse most days!! and once it was connected you could barely concentrate on games you would play on it in fear of losing connection in one way or another especially if you accidently knocked the cable outta the board !!  as soon as i found out the bluetooth board was coming out, i immediately sold the USB board and bought the bluetooth board, must admit i was a little apprehensive at first, but no sooner than i got it outta the box set up was a piece of cake and i was playing in under 10mins with no problems !! only issues i have nowadays are "ghosting pieces" in the rabbit connect software but thats not a big problem very easy to resolve.  in short then if i was in your boots i would dump the USB on someone else and definately get the bluetooth board !!

I bought the USB DGT-Board and tried it on Fritz, Shredder and Arena interfaces and there are problems in all of them. Crashes, disconnections, moves that it doesn't accept, etc etc

I do not recommend it to anybody.

One problem with USB can be caused by a "smart" setting in Windows. To save energy, Windows turns off USB ports that have low activity for a while. You might want to try disabling this setting. Please refer to this website for instance.

The only problem I have with the DGT board is a loose cable.

I agree the with Jv2080, I think the DGT board is awesome, I found it works well with Babaschess, Fritz, Arena, LucasChess  and DGT pi to name some of the programs.

Avatar of Sjtsjogoljev

I'm a "techie" too, and love my DGT e-board en DGTpi. Still I think DGT should provide better support for their equipment. For instance, the USB-connection problems I mentioned in #168 should have been addressed by DGT by providing an updated driver, instead of me finding out by trial and error how to circumvent this problem.

I own one DGT e-board and two sets of pieces: Classic and Venus. Here are some pictures.

The size of the board is about 55x55 cm
