Estate Sale Find

ChessAuthor

I know these are not big on the list of most people here, but I found this set this weekend by chance at an estate sale. The reason I like it is because this is the set I learned how to play chess on. The pieces ignited my imagination and I was hooked.

The amazing thing is how well preserved they are. The paper felts look like the previous owner never even played with them. The board and the instruction booklet look perfect. Only the box top is beat up a bit. But it's the nostalgia.

The instruction booklet that came with it has a 1959 copyright, so they could have been made anytime after that I suppose. I'm sure the company would have printed enough instruction booklets to put in boxes for years to come. But, I am no expert!

I had the same set when I was a kid.

Also had the same set as a kid.

Have a hand painted version and a relative recently gave me same set missing a few pieces but with a maple cutting board like a Chef uses, with playable squares

Thanks for posting this, brings back great memories!

The set I had as a kid was newer, and was black and white, but identical in every other way. Great pieces.

The brown and white plastic sets are like the Anri wood sets. Here is one I just sold.
