Fritz and WMPlayer

Yeah, you're right, my "Windows Media Player" subfolder is in both the "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" folders. I initially just didn't think to look in both locations.

Funny thing about the "wmpdui.dll" files. I have two Win 7 machines, a Win7 Pro "clean" Windows install, and a Win7 Home Edition OEM Windows install. Neither PC has a "wmpdui.dll" file in the "Windows Media Player" folders. However, in each PC, there are a total of four copies of the "wmpdui.dll" file in various subfolders within the "C:\Windows\" folder.

Files on wife’s PC in Program files 86/WMP: all of above except - wmpnetwk.exe, wmpnscfg.exe, wmpsideshowgadget.exe

Both of my PCs agree with the list for your wife's PC.

The file I mentioned above (wmpdui.dll) was downloaded from the internet because something I read mentioned that this file may be missing. However, this file is “not” included in my wife’s PC folders.

Just be careful downloading DLL files from the internet. They're not always legit.

Here's some info regarding the four WmpDui.dll files I found on my PCs (the info was identical for both PCs). I added the MD5 hash values in case you want to check to see if your files are identical to my files.

For file name searches, I usually use the search feature in Windows Explorer.

An even better search utility is SearchMyFiles from NirSoft, although it has so many features that you'll have to play with it a while to get comfortable with it.

Oh, and if you need a hashing program, NirSoft has one for that:

Looks my last post also went into space. The dll file was missing from syswow64 and system32, copied from wife's PC. Tried the turn off/on feature and a new install from microsoft website with same results. No WMP. I guess that is it, I give up. Watching Fritz Training videos on wife's PC.

I still don't know what the cause of the problem might be. Just for good measure, check the PC carefully for malware. Or, maybe another legit program moved some dll files when it shouldn't have. Or maybe some files just got corrupted. Or maybe your hard drive is starting to go south. Any number of possible reasons.

Well, good luck with your problem. I hope you solve it soon.
