Fritz Database: How to delete games?

I can't seem to be able to delete games from databases i fritz nor chessbase. It does not remove the game from the list when i press delete. How do I permanently remove games from databases? I can't belive such a simple and basic function is not working as it should.

Scereno

why would you want to remove them?

When you highlight a game in the games list, and press delete, it will put a stroke through the name, and turn the entry grey.  In Chessbase, go to the database window, right click on the database, choose "Tools," and then "Remove deleted games."

In ChessBase, open the database, highlight the game, and hit delete game (the red X). The game should be gray with a line though it. Close the database (keep it highlighted) in in the main menu, click on tools, go to database, cllick on remove deleted games. I assume you can do the same in Fritz.

Thx guys, it worked. I needed to delete some games because of bad entries in my personal excercise database I made for some endgame stuff. It's still really annoying that deleting a game takes this much effort.

The "Remove deleted games" step was made that way to prevent you from accidentally deleting all your games without realizing it.  It's not that much work once you get used to it.

I found out that in Fritz 12 when I open up a PGN database, I can't delete any games. So, when I try to mark games for deletion, they don't even turn gray, and I can't delete them at all. But, when I open up a ChessBase database (CBH files), the delete function works perfectly!

I believe that when you close a PGN archive in Chessbase, it asks if you would like to remove the deleted games.

Thanks for these tips on how to remove deleted games from my Fritz 13 database. But I still have a problem in that I don't know what it means to:

"In ChessBase, open the database, highlight the game, and hit delete game (the red X). The game should be gray with a line though it. Close the database (keep it highlighted) in in the main menu, click on tools, go to database, cllick on remove deleted games. I assume you can do the same in Fritz."

I can open my MyGames database in Fritz 13, but there is no Tools item in Fritz 13 to "click on remove deleted games" that I can see. Is Chessbase a separate program from Fritz 13?

Currently my games database looks like a dog's breakfast with many entries for the same games greyed out with a line through them. I want to delete those duplicate entries for the same games permanently. I agree with an earlier comment that this should be an obvious function in Fritz 13 but it doesn't seem to be.

Thanks.

I don't have Fritz 13 but this is from the Fritz 12 manual, so maybe the process is similar:

13.3 Delete game
In the database window, Application Menu – Home - Delete: the marked games are struck through and marked as "deleted". The menu in the icon list "Remove Deleted Games" permanently removes deleted games from the database.

Thanks. That did it! For the benefit of others with Fritz 13, to remove deleted games:

In Fritz 13: File->Open Database

In Database: [e.g. MyGames]->Database Functions->Remove Deleted Games

The deleted games are then removed and the database is re-packed.

Thanks again.
