Inspired by "Grandpa's Chess Pieces": My found set of wacky wide-eyed bewildered Knights.

If you search ebay today for Drueke Lardy you get a vendor selling replacement pieces that are very similar to mine but smaller. So possibly these were made in Europe for Drueke?

The mysterious origins of the Scooby Knights is solved.

Sorry for dragging up this old thread but I found this online and wanted to share. I'm comparing my set to the pics and it's 100% a match. The set of Scooby Knight chess pieces is officially called, "K&C Quality London Chessmen." 3.5" King. From the 1930s. Wow.

The World Wide Web is deep and vast. Hah!

Just love the graphics on that box.

However....if you search "Vintage wooden chess Parker Brothers" on ebay you find another company sold these. So I think made in France/Germany for multiple companies. Those in the US probably more likely to be PB, but one never knows, do one.

The Parker Brothers set is similar but not the same. Check out the finials on the Bishops, Queen and King. The battlements of the Rooks. And the details of the Knights. Overall, the Parker Brothers set is cruder. More "blobby" and blah in comparison.

In looking over all the pictures it is clear yours are different than mine and you do have the more refined K&C. I am not seeing carved mane line on one side of the K&C knights which mine have. But looking closely at the PB set, the rooks dont match mine, so mine is not that either. But having worked in factories I can attest that your product can vary from day to day, often hangover based...

FYI: This is not my sale item.

I only list it here for anyone tired of their Jacques, NOJ, and vintage Chavet sets and are interested in dabbling with The Scooby. $110 seems a bit high. But this one has the box and they look in great condition, shockingly straight with no lean.

PS. My long term plans for my set is to convert them into Centaur board compatible pieces with the addition of metal bottoms. Hah! They've been sitting for decades, unused in a box for long enough. Time to bring them into the 21st century and get them back on the board thumbup.png

**UPDATE**

Aaaaaaand... Just like that, the Scoobies are gone. Whoever bought them, shoot me a message. I'm curious to know who scored them. I'll keep it private wink.png
