Jaques Reproduction

Greetings to the members of the forum.
I'm looking for a 1849 Jaques reproduction, around $500. I've found these 5 sets below, but I would like your opinion on which one is closer to the original 1849 set. Your help would be much appreciated.

Out of those, I'd say the second to last one.

Have you checked Official Staunton:

or House of Staunton:

In the last but one ... the dome on the king is not correct, too rounded. They got the thin turret of the rook right though.

Every one of those sets has some aspects that seem right, and others that don't.

But you have to remember there wasn't just 1 set made in 1849... look at a range of sets from the mid-1800s and you'll see variations. I think pick the set you like the most, but if what you want is an authentic Jaques... then get an authentic Jaques! They do come around sometimes for under 1k.

There aren't that many Jaques 1849 sets left and while It's true that the various 1849 sets differ from each other a bit in many of the reproductions there are features that I haven't seen in any Jaques sets. It would be a lot better if makers took one particular set and tried to copy it as closely as possible, then we good judge how good the reproduction is.

In the end it's the one you like the most !

For a little bit more can buy a real Jaques set  from a later date ,

At least you would have the real thing, Rather than a reproduction .

@IpswichMatt The 1849 OS version is really nice, but unfortunately the dark pieces are of ebonized boxwood. They have the 1851 set which is in ebony, but I don't really like the knight. If the 1849 was in ebony I'd buy it in a sec. The HOS version is nice as well, but with the customs charges it will come too expensive.

Thank you guys.
