That one looks just fine. However, a vintage board with lighter reddish brown walnut squares might match up well with the Looping clock.

One day, one day I can only hope wink.png

MCH818

Me too! But that one is too red for your clock. Haha!

TheOneCalledMichael

I can sell the clock and add another 5 bills to get this one in 55mm. Problem solved lol

Did someone say red? happy.png

I've had this UK woodworker saved in my Etsy favorites. Custom boards. $84 shipping to the US though...  sad.png  Shipping may be a little more favorable in your part of the world.

That's rare, woodworker in UK/Europe. I have like 5 or 6 favorites and all are in USA lol. Yeah shipping fee is less but we have customs and vat on top of it sad.png

edit: I know only one in Germany and one in Greece but both make only solid boards, no framed boards unfortunately.

That’s an interesting board. Wood frame with a leather playing surface. It looks good to me.

Nice find! Even for here in the Netherlands, converted to euro that's 115 euro and that's very cheap for a 50mm padauk board and that nice Reykjavik set as well. So I can imagine in Swiss that's like pocket change happy.png

I was hunting for this chess board for years. It`s a padauk/maple round corners 50mm square board from Sunrise, Poland.  It was always out of stock. Probably the best chess board from Poland. To my surprise, I found it at a local online chess and games shop together with this nice Reykjavik chess pieces (king height is 85mm) and a nice box. The price (120 swiss francs) was another surprise for me because switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in the world. Board was labelled as sample. Probably the Swiss seller ordered one or two boards to check the quality, and then failed to order more due to the outbreak of the Covid and the chaos on the market. In any case, the quality is excellent, very close to Rechapados Ferrer chess boards.

I have the same one (without notification) and I love it!! I bought it in Sunrise online shop this summer - it was available (september I suppose) and I paid something around 40-45 euro (170 PLN). I bought also sunrise staunton german nr 5 fiugures and I love this set. I can put some pic if anyone is interested.

I got this plastic set, it came with a board that I bought a while back.  It's run of the mill plastic set here, and I kinda like it somehow.

Last week I stumbled upon this set, it looks so similar to the above set so I had to get it. Later I found out that plastic set is a derivative of Bayerwald 1960 Leipzig Olympiad, a set that was used during that Olympiad. It's 3.5" KH and unweighted. Fun set for cheap, on eBay this set go for quadruple the price.

Looks good Michael!

This is still minor league compared to boss Walther happy.png

MCH818

That’s true. I think Walter had more in some of his photos than we have.

Couple of sets just for fun, looks good too I must say.

Romanian set from the 70's, 90mm KH

Polish set with brass inlay, 98mm KH

Nice finds. The Romanian set reminds me of a Vienna Coffee House set.

I Think the Romanian set is marvelous and would really stand out on a larger-squared board!

TheOneCalledMichael

Yes indeed I've seen a set called Romanian Coffee House set, I guess there is lot of mixture of influence down there.

True mr K, I notice they like cramped playing fields over there, I see that in Russian sets as well.
