Need Opinion on Chess Table

Does anyone have or can make a + or - recommendation about this chess table?

Lacks elbow and book room. It seems to be a recipe for some frustration.

I'd rather have a simple, sound, well-sized table and just lay my board of choice atop it.

Looks nice, bit low - will you be able to get your knees under it for comfortable play?

@ golden. I was worried about that. I just cant find ANYTHING of decent quality online (under 500$)! Drueke used to make a beautiful table, but not any more.

@Match: I am worried about that too, lol. Im very tall (6'3")

I'm so frustrated....am I just not searching right? I really need something, but I wont by particle board junk.

Have you had a look at the best chess tables site?

Butler also makes great Chess tables:

A really nice one is going to cost more than $500 in todays market, unless you luck out. You may be able to find one at an Estate sale, maybe even a flea market, arts and crafts store, or wood workers event. As far as searching online, make sure you get dimensions, and weight, and shipping costs, that could be more than the table itself.

You could also check your local woodworkers, or someone you know that may know one that is really good, and see if they will custom make you one.

Good luck.

@ Alec: WOW. that's all I can say. I don't know how I missed this site...thank you.

@Crimson: Seems that way $$. I live in an area close to where the Amish live. I could always try them. At this point I'm thinking maybe just a nice/plain solid oak table would work.....I think I would end up saving a lot (maybe the chess squares add significant cost due to novelty??)...Ethan Allen is also down the street, but their tables are at 7-800$+

The Amish are great at arts and crafts, I would definitely check them out. I don't know how they deal with outsiders, but maybe they could make you one even if they don't have one. Good luck.

didn't you only just buy a really nice board? i'm confused why you would shell out for a nice board then decide a table is what you want. my advice is make use of what you already have! find a normal table for your board to sit on.

lol. As a gift, yes. You sounded eerily like my brother there. He would say the exact same thing to me... However, my wife and I have no room for it (sits on my computer desk). Playing is difficult, so a chess table would be nice. In addition, its just a nice piece of furniture that can be used as a table for other things as well.

I think I'm just opting for a nice solid oak/cherry table to put my set on top of. Thanks for input everyone.

I have not seen anything as good as the tables at : thebestchesstables.com

Pat_Zerr

You don't have a dining room table or something to put a chess board on?
